I can't decide which is lovelier, the open crocuses or the establishing of a proper water vole latrine on the sandbank where I found the droppings. Once latrines are up and running, I know where to site my camera to get the first vole footage of the year.

Hi Kate,
I've enjoyed finding and reading your blog and look forward to following your voles this year! Here in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight there are lots of signs....but no sightings yet!
Oh, I'd love to go to the Isle of Wight. With no mink, your wildlife must be fantastic.
Love your blog! Have saved it to links. It's nice to see someone else getting excited about w-v latrines.
Thanks for the encouragement - I can't wait for the Spring proper to really find out what's around!
As much as like spring flowers (especially the snowdrop obsession I seem to be developing), I'd have to say the sight of new water vole poo would always win for me.
Knowing they have survived winter always makes me smile.
Personally, I prefer the flowers to the poo. But glad to hear the signs are good. Come visit me, Kate, and we could do a day-trip to Freshwater via ferry and bus.
Thank you - a very tempting offer!
And I would happily provide any refreshments needed! :-)
