We have activity too!! Just putting the pix into the blog post... some nice video too.... but every time it has swum past... I've not been able to get the camera up, focused, etc. in time. I'll just have to sit outside the front door with the camera ready...
I've already played "Pooh voles" twice... rushing from the lounge windows to the front door, to see it come out under the bridge.... but we've had a lot of rain recently and the millstream is in spate... and "Socks" has been using the current... and been too quick for me to catch a few frames!! So we've got the LtlAcorn in place on a tripod and are relying on him taking "selfies"!
"The Owl in t'Ole, the Vole's 'Oles and a Coypu's rear end...." the latest post from Aigronne Valley Wildlife tells of the trials and tribulations.... of getting good evidence of species activity!!
And the name "Socks" for our vole is because... to me anyway... they look just like a pair of socks fresh from the clothes-line... all bundled up ready for the sock-drawer... and floating along on top of the water.
The Goldcrest picture on Aigronne V.W. is one of my brother's... as yet, I've never got near enough to one!! But the little Siskins that are around at the moment are the most confiding little critters... they actually line up and watch me filling the feeders!! They think I'm "Staff"...just like the cats!
This blog charts the fortunes of water voles in and around the Whitchurch area, North Shropshire. Water voles are one of the UK's most threatened mammals, extinct in many counties, and so it's vital they receive as much monitoring and protection as there is going. Here in Whitchurch we're lucky enough to have them right in the middle of town - how cool is that?
