Been seeing voles all week at Yockings Gate, but no photos, alas.

We parked up on the bridge near Whixall Marina and had a look at the Roden just down the road. Something brown and furry was running along the bank towards us and then turned and scuttled back the way it came. It was vole sort of size (i.e. quite a bit bigger than a mouse.)
This blog charts the fortunes of water voles in and around the Whitchurch area, North Shropshire. Water voles are one of the UK's most threatened mammals, extinct in many counties, and so it's vital they receive as much monitoring and protection as there is going. Here in Whitchurch we're lucky enough to have them right in the middle of town - how cool is that?

Much, much to quick for a photo, though!
They are around there, so it's likely. The ones at Yockings Gate must have rockets under them, I think!
