Big Garden Birdwatch 2022

 

Although the voles aren't out yet, I thought I'd post the results of this year's RSPB BGBW. A sparse showing, perhaps because of the strong winds. 

Anyway, here are some birds I've spotted so far this January, mainly at Whixall but also Aqualate Mere.

Into November with fieldfares, redwings, reed buntings and squirrels.

Raven in cypress.

Poor photo of a stoat. They are so quick!

Female stonechat, nuthatch and little egret.

Unexpectedly Warm Day

Starlings and linnets.

Fly agaric, coming to a silver birch tree near you soon.

Thrilled to see this female Green woodpecker.

Great Crested newt.

Green sandpiper.

The Last Voles of Summer?

 

Around this month, I begin to get fewer and fewer sightings so I stop going down to the brook till next Spring. Water voles don't hibernate, but they do become fossorial, that is move underground, and eat roots and doze through the cold weather.

Aqualate Mere and Whixall Moss

Small frog and extremely distant marsh harrier.

Fox and grey wagtail.

Black darters, female and male.

Sallow moth and raft spider.

Shield bug nymph.

 Toad and slow worm.
