Growing Up

Had to lighten these shots so they're a bit grainy, but Spot's only coming out at dusk this week. He looks significantly bigger than when I first saw him, which is good. Towards this end of the year I've noticed they don't eat so much water cress; maybe they're after foods with a higher nutritional content?

Might have asked before, do voles hibernate? I guess like most animals they build up fat for the winter months anyway.

They don't hibernate: there's some entertaining film of the Cromford voles skating across the frozen canal and burrowing into snow. But water voles do spend most of their winter underground, eating stored food eg roots. Field signs more or less disappear, too. I'n not expecting to see anything much between November and the beginning of March.
