The Clee Hills

Edgeley Road water voles.

A great surprise to see these two barn owls. I didn't want to go any nearer in case it frightened them.

Mistle thrush. It's years since I've seen one of these.

Below, Titterstone Clee car park. It's absolutely full of stonechats, linnets, wagtails and we saw a kestrel too. A very atmospheric site with stunning views.

Yellowhammer and more stonechats on Prees Heath Common.

Drinker moth.

Glow Worm Time

Obviously the last thing I would do is disturb the glow worm since it's so endangered, so here is the best photo I could get!

Spotted Flycatcher.

Gatekeeper.

Common lizard.

Purple Hairstreaks. When their wings open, they are stunning, but this one wasn't playing.

Random Beauties

A small latrine.

Below: Peach Blossom, Bird's Wing, The Snout, Common Emerald, Elephant Hawk moth licking my finger, and an Early Thorn.

From the canal at Whixall: a Comma butterfly and two Banded Demoiselles.

Balletic Voles

(Slowed down.)

These two voles are probably siblings, but nevertheless they spook each other!

Another Chance to Compare Young and Old

In real life, the older vole in the top photo is larger than the younger vole in the picture below. You can see the difference in their fur quite clearly.

This young vole was quite wary.

Mum was bolder; she knew I was there but didn't bother.

Discarded grass snake skin.

Swimming mole! This was a big surprise.

Wildflower meadow containing many butterflies, including this Marbled White. Also a Burnet moth.

Red Admiral butterfly.
